Here’s someone we’ve not seen for a while.

So, after last week’s experiment, I decided to give digital ink another try. This time, though, the pencils were done on paper and scanned in. It is nice to have clean lines to work with during coloring instead of the fuzzy lines the scanner gives you.

So I was at an open house for an art school I was thinking of taking a workshop at this summer and there was a guy out front using a brush pen to draw some amazing comic book art. So I thought I’d get one and see if I could channel some of that awesomeness. I think I had mixed results. Brush pens are very sensitive to pressure, so you can’t just dig into the page like you can with technical pens.

Also, this week’s vote incentive is something I created to test a program I’ve been writing for the day job. 3D is a whole different realm of art.

The sergeant really should have brought more police officers with him.

Looks like an ocean cruise is one of the perks of this job.

I’m moved into my new apartment and got my computer set up. Still waiting for a second delivery on Monday.

Also, in this week’s voting incentive, that’s Tracy and not Joel. Tracy and Joel are nearly identical without their coat colors filled in. Joel has a charm around his neck and slightly longer hair. I was never expecting Tracy to become such a prominent character, so I just designed him as a generic goat.

And they finally manage to break through the lines!

On another note, I’m moving this weekend. Hopefully this won’t disrupt things too much.

Okay. So for a few months now, the cave spiders have seemed somehow ‘wrong’ to me. I couldn’t quite place my finger on it. Also, this is the first comic in which we see one of the spiders from the rear, so I decided to do some web searches for spider images.

And then, as my gaze wandered over image after image of delicate spinnerettes, it hit me. I’ve been drawing the legs coming out of the wrong part of their body this whole time! And given that spiders have a merged head and thorax – and that I’ve been drawing tiny heads this whole time – if I moved the legs, I’d have to redesign the whole body too.

This left me with a bit of conundrum. Continue with the beach-ball spiders I’ve been using so far, or break continuity? Well, I’ve redesigned enough characters mid-story-arc so far, so why not the spiders too? So no, a new group of arachnids did not just descend upon everyone – it’s just the window on their world coming into a sharper focus.
