Hide and Seek
Went to see some interesting Japanese plays last night. The theme was people living with robots, and they had some nifty androids onstage doing some acting. They weren’t that much more complex than what you see in children’s toys, but it was still interesting to watch. Luckily all of the robots seemed to be following Asimov’s three laws, so the audience was safe.

Took her long enough to see her boyfriend wasn’t there.
I’ll be a bit surprised if April doesn’t pull herself together after this shock.
(( Did any of the androids fall into the Uncanny Valley? ))
The first one did. The android and an actor were already onstage when the audience entered, and it was hard to tell which was the human. However, as soon as the lights came up, the android looked rubbery. It also couldn’t do much aside from move it’s face and bow at the waist. In the second play, the androids looked like Teletubbies from the waist up and Daleks from the waist down. Much more appealing, but they still moved like large children’s toys.
Sounds artsy, but I think I’d take some Uncanny Valley spookiness over a Teletubby-Dalek chimera! 😛
