Stone’s throw
So I’ve been listening to The Count of Monte Cristo on audiobook. It’s pretty good – it’s almost like an 18th century version of Batman. It had an important role in influencing a lot of early 20th century American detective fiction, so I suppose that’s not too surprising.
We’re down to the last days of 2013. Have a good new year, everyone!

LOL Bartholomew stoops to throwing rocks! 🙂 I guess he’s just more courteous to women. 😉 …and I love the expressions in panel two!
“Count of Monte Cristo” – Is that Shakespeare? How good is the version you’re listening to? I’ve paid no attention to Shakespeare since high school.
No, it’s by Alexandre Dumas and was published in 1844. The original is in French but there are a lot of English translations about. The language is modern enough that it’s pretty easy to follow.
I’ve been listening to this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQES_rMjWOA
I’ve read “The Three Musketeers”, but never anything else by Dumas. Now I’ve bookmarked this one for future perusal. 🙂 Thanks; I didn’t ever realize book readings were on the tube.
@Iron Ed – From the look on his face, I don’t think ‘courteous’ has any part of his thinking or intentions. I fear the worst for Ms Fox – and I suspect that April is absolutely right to hate him and all his works. In their world, at least, there probably are fates that are truly worse than death.
