Showdown
So I’ve been listening to more Inner Sanctum mysteries – an old radio show produced during world war two. It’s a horror/mystery format. Most of the plots are corny, but fun. The best part is the narrator “Mr Host” who introduces the show and breaks and who manages to make silly puns about murder and ghosts sound suave.
There’s also the ‘creaking door’, a rusty door sound effect that opens and closes every show. Apparently it was actually produced by a squeaking swivel chair and was a prominent feature of the show until one day when a custodian who didn’t know what it was used for oiled it.

Same trick won’t work twice with Joel! …Well; not three times anyway. Our Hero’s such a nice, fair play kinda guy. 😉
I’ve heard of “Inner Sanctum”; not sure I ever heard it. That does sound amusing/fun. 🙂 If you’d like to read something similarly amusing, try to find a book called, “Venus Equilateral”. It’s a set of sci-fi short stories written during WWII. The best part is the disclaimer in the front of the book. Seems the writer was an electronics engineer and the idea he thought he’d invented just for the stories was a bit too close to some top secret project. Imagine his surprise when the FBI knocked on his door. . . 🙂
During my time in the military (when I was stationed overseas), we used to listen to Armed Forces Radio, and they used to air a lot of programs from the ‘Golden Age of Radio’. It was great! My wife and I would turn the lights way low, and let the narrator carry us away…
Dangit; meant to ask: Where are you finding ‘Inner Sanctum’ to listen to?

Thanks; I have it bookmarked now. 🙂
